Welcome to the New Truxtun Center!
The 80,000-square-foot facility off Hilltop Lane has a cavernous gymnasium that is three regulation-sized basketball courts wide and topped by a four-lane walking-jogging track. There are aerobic and resistance training rooms with the latest equipment, dance and movement classroom studios, volleyball courts, meeting rooms and more.
Walk-in use for adult city residents will cost $6 daily; it will be $5 daily for youths and seniors. The costs for nonresidents in those categories will be $7 and $6, respectively.
A program membership - $40 per person or $65 per family - covers enrollment in classes and programs only. A full yearly membership - $225 for residents and $259 for nonresidents - covers use of the gym, fitness center, track and other facilities, on top of the chance to sign up for programs and classes. "It's based on the YMCA model," said Taney Hamill, chairwoman of the Annapolis Recreation Advisory Board.
The center will have a "soft" opening at the end of November. In January the Truxtun Park Recreation Center will be in full swing, with scheduled programs and classes, ranging from Cardio Tennis and Baby Buggy Boogie Walking Club to Pilates and Salsa-Rumba, kicking off the first week after the holidays.
